History of Nu Omega
The Nu Omega Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi had its early beginnings with a group known as the Students of Business. Originally the Accounting Club, Students of Business evolved into an organization open to all students in the School of Management. Advisor Gail Hoover, Ph.D., invited a Delta Sigma Pi representative to speak to the members about becoming part of the national organization.
In the spring of 1998, Students of Business became the Sigma Omicron Beta Colony, with the intention of becoming a part of Delta Sigma Pi. Members talked to classmates, professors and staff about becoming involved with the colony and recruited freshmen in the fall. During this time, the colony planned social, service and professional events for its members and potential recruits in addition to learning about Delta Sigma Pi. Their hard work and enthusiasm paid off and was duly noted by the Associate Dean of the School of Management Ronald Logan, Ph.D., in a petition letter he wrote to Delta Sigma Pi. The Summer 1999 issue of the Deltasig quoted part of his letter, which read “This colony has proven to be the most successful student business organization that Rockhurst’s School of Management has had . . . I fully support the colony becoming a chapter and look forward to growing our association with this dedicated group of students.”
The Sigma Omicron Beta Colony became Nu Omega, the 245th chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, during an installation ceremony on May 1, 1999. National officers conducted the installation, and thirty-six members as well as four faculty initiates, signed the petition that established the chapter.
